Hey there everyone!

I just recently finished a NEW PAINTING! I am very pleased with the way it turned out! I went with more of a monochromatic palette this time around and I enjoyed the process.

Hey there everyone!

I hope that you had a lovely holiday and your week is starting off right! Today, I continued working on my painting of the woman with the afro.  I am finished with my block-in.

To all of you who are not artists, a "block-in," pretty much is like it sounds. To put it simply, I don't have any details finished, all I have is the first lay-in of colors for all my shapes in the painting. The point is not to have any of the canvas showing through. It's helpful to get the right values and see if the composition looks good with your initial color choices. So far, I am pleased. I hope you like it!

Here is the painting, still, not finished! Also, I have another photo of my NEW STUDIO!! SUPER EXCITED!

For one of my commissions I will re-do my pastel drawing, "Georgia in Pink," except this piece will be done with OIL PAINT. Also, I will also be painting a portrait of a young boy as well.

I haven't started the paintings yet, just got news about the commission today. But, as promised, anything ART related, I'm keeping you informed!

Hope your weekend is going well!

Tuesday, January 8, 2013, Started a New painting!

Hi everyone,

As promised, anything art related I am posting on my Journal/Blog.  Today, I was not as productive as yesterday, but, I was able to start up a new painting! It's the very beginnings of what any of my paintings look like. It is a girl with an awesome afro looking at a view of Los Angeles.

Some people wonder how I start a painting.  Now, you know.  I use a small brush with burnt umber oil paint to layout the composition of the painting. This part of my painting process is one of the longest because I want to make sure the drawing is accurate with proportion and the composition is satisfying to the eye. Sometimes, I'll have to wipe the paint off and repaint/draw certain areas to make it look better. Luckily, I didn't have to repaint much today. Now, it's time to add color and HAVE FUN!

ENJOY!

Monday, January 7, 2013, Life in Art

Hello,

Today, was an extremely productive day.  I have continued on with my pastel painting of a portrait of a girl wearing a red hat. Also, I worked on an oil painting that is very close to being finished! I'm super happy with my progress of both pieces thus far!  I love it when your creative juices are flowing and all you can do is make art!  It is truly a joyous feeling!

I'm posting 4 pictures. One, of the oil painting in progress titled "Window Shopping 2." The other 3 photos are various in-progress pictures of my pastel painting. Now, remember that neither pieces are FINISHED yet, there is still a lot of WORK to be DONE! Please keep this in mind. I HOPE YOU ENJOY! COMMENTS WELCOME!

In-progress Pastel 1/4/13

HELLO EVERYONE!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I hope that everyone had a lovely 2012.  I wish everyone an even better year in 2013! This year I am going to try to blog more and show you how I work.  My goal is not to just show finished pieces, but artwork in-progress.

THIS Blog will become my art journal! As always, comments are welcome! This will be a great way for you to see my work in various stages before it is completely done! Also, this will be a great opportunity for me to receive constructive critiques from my viewers and fellow artists!

Currently, I am working on a pastel painting. It is 10"x 8"
It's a painting of a little girl wearing a very large hat. I have a certain process when I do pastels. I've come to realize how much dust falls down on my drawing. So, instead of having to add more layers on top of a finished area due to dust, I am working my pastels much like I work my landscapes, from TOP to BOTTOM.

The drawing only has the background and hat filled in. I still have some touch ups to do on the hat. Also, depending on the color scheme of the painting, the background will probably become much cooler than what it looks like at the moment. The hat is so warm, I'm probably going to make the background more of a cool gray color.

NOW REMEMBER, THIS PAINTING IS FAR FROM OVER, THERE IS STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE.  With that said, I hope you enjoy thus far!
